This romanic church, is the most valuable monument of Santarém. lt's building dates to the 12 th/l3th centuries and it is roman-gothic.
The church has only one nave and a beautiful romanic triunphal arch, supported by two columns.
The portic, has four columns which head-pieces have vegetal decoration and five archivolts.
A beautiful rose-window of four concentric circles, adorns the front.
At the interior, one can admire the gothic cenotaph of D. Duarte de Menezes, that is very well wrought. On the cover can be seen the lying statue of lhe Earl.
There can be found also the tombs of the d'Osem Family, Martim, João and Gil, knights of lhe Avis Dinasty of King João, the first; Near by there is another tomb which might be of Martin Afonso Chichorro.
    At the end of the church lhe tomb of Afonso of Portugal, son of Afonso Henriques.
By the entrance, on the right, there is the cenotaph of the Menezes, Duarte Menezes and wife Antonieta Henriques, and their son Pedro de Menezes and his wife D. Ana Henriques.
On lhe walls, memorial stones of Martim António de Castro, son of the Earls of Monsanto; D. António de Castro and D. Inês Pimentel (l649); Fernão Teles de Sylqueira 1st Earl of Unhão, and his wife D. Francisca de Castro, who was the daughter of Martim António de Castro and D. Margarida de Távora.
This temple served as theatre since 1849 till 1876, being transformed, in that year, in archaelogical museum.
Nowadays the archaelogical museum of Santarém has a great and valuable heritage.
Arab head-pieces, arches, columns, ancient roman landmarks, tombs and graves, images, balconies, several kinds of glazed tiles, various pieces of pottery, coins and so many other objects of historical interest.
