Tornearte was founded in 1971 to manufacture the traditional items of domestic woodware for which Portugal has become famous. We work in pine and other woods to make our products which are finished with a natural varnished surface.

Our factory is in Pernes in central Portugal, a region where people have been working in wood for generations, where timber is a local commodity and the skills are traditional.

We understand the importance of producing high quality products as most of our production is exported. In 1975 we appointed T&G Woodware as our distributor in the UK. This was the beginning of a very successful business partnership.

T&G’s expertise in marketing and product development had a strong influence on our growth and direction which led to increased pressure on our production capacity. For this reason T&G Woodware purchased our company in 1989. Since then we have embarked on a considerable investment programme with new machinery, new production methods and more efficient handling of materials during the manufacturing process. With this agenda we are planning for substantial productivity gains while continuing the policy of quality and innovative design.
